This Year's Project: Mission Services Expansion Building

About Our Organization

Most people know Goodwill from our donation centers and thrift stores, but we’re so much more.

Goodwill helps people find jobs! We offer education and training programs, as well as a variety of other services to help give people the tools they need to sharpen their skills, meet new challenges and create more rewarding and independent lives by finding employment in their communities.

Starting as Wall Street Mission in Sioux City in 1890, Goodwill of the Great Plains joined the international Goodwill movement in 1923. We now have 22 retail stores in four states, which give the people we serve a place to practice their job skills and help fund our mission; a 23rd store will open in Sioux Center, Iowa in 2024.

After more than 100 years, our commitment to engaging community members in workforce development, quality-of-life and support services has not diminished. In 2023, more than 500 people were placed into community jobs after using our services and more than 33,000 people were served by Goodwill programs.

Current Project: Mission Services Expansion Building

After more than 100 years of serving the greater Siouxland community, we are expanding!

Goodwill of the Great Plains is adding a new 23,645 sq. ft. state-of-the-art Mission Services Center across the street from our main Support Center on W. 4th St. in Sioux City.

Once it opens in early 2025 the building will be the new home of many of our programs and services which help individuals thrive and reach their fullest potential.

The space will feature a commercial kitchen, lounge, computer lab, gymnasium, sensory room and more! The building is designed to meet the needs of the people we serve and act as a community resource for Sioux City’s West Side. Community members of all abilities will be able to take part in various activities, programs and offerings there.

The building is designed to serve 120 people enrolled in our Integrated Day Services and Day Habilitation programs every day and is the first in Siouxland designed to ‘net zero’ specifications; it will generate its energy from the sun using solar panels and will be heated and cooled using an underground geothermal system.

Your thoughtful support will make this much-needed space for programming and community outreach a reality!
